🔒 Leader’s Dispatch: 🧟‍♂️ Process Zombies Devoured My Startup ☠️

Part 1 of 4 in the new arc: The Collapse of Efficiency

🧩 Series Introduction — The Collapse of Efficiency

This post begins a four-part special series uncovering how our obsession with optimization backfired:

1️⃣ Process Zombies Devoured My Startup — When rituals outlive their purpose.
2️⃣ The Toolpocalypse — When the stack attacks.
3️⃣ The Status Update Spiral — When transparency becomes surveillance.
4️⃣ The Automation Hangover — When machines run the rituals.

We chased efficiency. What we got was exhaustion — dressed up in dashboards.

🧟 The Opening Scene: When Rituals Refuse to Die

The infection started small — a harmless daily standup, a checklist for clarity, a sprint retrospective “just to improve communication.”

Then came the templates. The frameworks. The sacred ceremonies.

And before anyone noticed, the team had turned.
They stopped thinking. Stopped questioning. Stopped asking why.

Every morning, they rose from their ergonomic chairs, shuffled toward another “alignment sync,” and recited their favorite corporate chant:

“Let’s take that offline.”

It was too late.
My startup had fallen to the Workflow Cult — a company of process zombies.

They didn’t eat brains. They ate initiative.

Pull Quote:
“Bureaucracy doesn’t rot overnight. It decays quietly — meeting by meeting.”

⚠️ Archetypes of the Workflow Undead

🧾 The Ritual Keeper (Zombie Priest)

Leads the team in daily standup prayers. Protects every meeting agenda like sacred scripture.

📋 The Compliance Crusader (Spreadsheet Necromancer)

Wrapped in Excel armor, they guard the sacred binder labeled “Process Compliance.”
When asked why the rule exists: “Because it’s the rule.”

🔁 The Loop Devotee (Agile Revenant)
